The North Carolina Department of Transportation intends to build a new roadway, the US 221 Rutherfordton Bypass. This work will be an 8 mile new roadway segment including new interchanges between U.S. 74 and Roper Loop Road. Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.
