The North Carolina Department of Transportation intends to extend Rea Road from just east of NC 16/Providence Road to NC 84 NC84/Weddington Road near Twelve Mile Creek Road in Weddington. This roadway extension will include widening of existing NC 84 for approximately 2.7 miles. Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.
