The North Carolina Department of Transportation intends to improve N.C. 88 between Smethport and Warrensville in Ashe County. These improvements will include intersection improvements at Claybank Road and Smethport Drive, Buffalo Road and Elliot Road, and the N.C. 88/N.C. 194/NW School Road intersection. Road realignment and several bridge replacements are planned as well. Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.
